How it works
We are an expanding family of small animal practices in the midlands looking for Clinical Directors to help us slowly and steadily expand.
What we are looking for:
Vets who have some experience – the job of a CD is not for new graduates. You must have some experience of the veterinary craft under your belt, so that you can then make the step into Leading a team of vets, nurses and receptionists.
You don’t need previous management or leadership experience, merely the desire to help our profession do better and create a positive practice environment where our teams can thrive and flourish.

What we give you:
- Autonomy with support
- You choose your team, who you employ, what shifts they work
- You choose what equipment you need to give our pets and clients an awesome service
- You choose how the practice runs on a daily basis
- We support you with the stuff that doesn’t put you in Flow, whether that be people management, HR, book-keeping, etc.
- Most importantly, we are the business voice when you need to bounce ideas off, and the supportive shoulder to lean on when you need it. Don’t underestimate the value of having someone who understands you and the fact that some days are amazing and to be celebrated and other days can be really hard. We help you with those disciplinary meetings you’re nervous about, on when you want to start Continuous Improvement meetings in the practice but aren’t sure how.
Financially – you receive a profit share and an equity share of the practice.
This means that the more the practice grows in the long term, the more you will benefit financially. This allows you to have a financial stake in the practice, particularly if you dont want the financial and emotional risk of setting up a practice completely on your own.
We have a small team to support each practice. It is intentionally small -this is one of our strengths. We do not have layers off regional managers on top of local managers, overseen by accountants to ‘oversee’ your practice. When you need help about how to market something – you just call us or even if you just want to run some ideas posts someone else – we come and see you to bounce ideas. And if you need help with the bigger decisions or advice, you can just email or call. My email is here : steven@pelagonius.co.uk, and when you join us, you can call me open my mobile.
We provide business parameters for you to work with. As veterinary practice owners for the last 20 years, we understand the KPIs that are relevant and useful (and the ones that aren’t). We also understand the non-financial KPIs that are more important than EBITDA at creating a successful practice. We don’t expect or want 30+% profit, we want a successful and sustainable long term veterinary business.
We place a high value on comntinually training the whole team both clinically and non-clinically. This takes place through many means, but some of the most important methods are our use of the Contribution Compass system of team profiling, and our online onboarding for all team members. This allows us all to understand how each others minds work, and how to get along and communicate when we are all different, eg, simple things like learning about a new practice management system – some people thrive on reading the how to manual, whereas others needs to watch a video, whilst others still will take the most in when demonstrated one to one. We utilise these ideas to make sure that we are continually striving to improve and maintain a growth mindset, so that we learn every single day.
